It's the best time of year here in the bluegrass for the thoroughbred industry, the classic Kentucky Derby and start of the 2016 race for the triple crown is just a few days away.
As we gear up for the yearling sale prep season we can't help but hope a certain few of the top 20, take home the elusive golden trophy and blanket of red roses.
In having a yearling Tapit colt out of Champion producer, Steelin' (dam of Shanghai Bobby,) we are looking forward to a possible "Tapit Trifecta?!" Be it a wild dream, there are three hopeful sons of Tapit likely to run for the roses.
Creator, killed it in the Arkansas Derby.
Lani, being successful overseas but never running in the US makes this guy a wild card.
Mohaymen, undefeated in 5 starts, only first being defeated in the Florida Derby (4th placed effort.) With that being his only mistep he could be our personal favorite!
A win for Tom's Ready would ideally add value to two of our yearlings, as they share a sire in More Than Ready. Already raising an elite son of the solid stallion in Daredevil, we will bring a couple more to the Keeneland September Sale this fall. One out of Beckles Road who's a half sister to G2/MG3 winner Leigh Court and the other out of Long Approach, a Grade 2 placed mare.
Being from Louisiana, we would be happy to see invested thoroughbred owners of Mo Tom and Tom's Ready, who are also Louisiana bred, gather in the winners cirlce next saturday. Having Mo Tom secure a spot just recently makes this possibility seem a little closer.
Whether its a duel between sires Tapit and Uncle Mo, both of which we support, or one owned, bred, raised ect by one of our close neighbors and friends, in the end we pray for a safe trip for all horses and riders involved; Quick feet, smooth break and safe trip! Grab a slice of Derby Pie and a Mint Julep and enjoy the best 2 minutes in sports!
